whell I found out from a friend that 44 is shut down he was chased out by D.E.M. and I was also told they are gating the entrances man this sucks nice local spot ruined by the neighbors whining about the trucks and bikes no more chicken runs sorry for the news but I figured you'd want to know, Brian

hey CheapXJ!!! how about a call to the people you talked to before the last run?? see if you can work something out in the way of a CLEANUP day or something.... if that is really owned by NASTYGANSETT ELECTRIC what jurisdiction would the DEM have there??

We'll look into it and post whatever information we can come up with.

As for the statement "... ruined by the neighbors whining about the trucks and bikes ..." I disagree. If we've been banned from this trail, it's because too many people told too many OTHER people, and the trail got over-used. This is why we don't post directions to trails on the open forums.

That particular trail was so well-known to locals that I don't think it was our chicken runs that resulted in closure, but our presence contributed just as did everyone else who ever ran that trail.

I know this sounds selfish (and it is), but PLEASEdon't indiscriminately spread word of good trails around to everyone in the universe. Word will spread to people who won't adhere to Tread Lightly principles, and who will overuse and abuse the trails, and we'll end up losing more and more trails. IMHO, trail information should be treated the same way military Top Secret information is supposed to be treated: It is to be shared only with other people who have shown that they can be trusted with sensitive information, AND it is shared even with those people only if/when they have a NEED (not a "want") to know.

???

Nobody was/is blaming you for anything or accusing you of blaming anyone, and nobody was lecturing you. We appreciate the heads up. It's just that your news comes as a huge surprise because the last time we ran we specifically checked with the company that supposedly controls the right-of-way and they told us it was fine. So it's more than a little confusing to hear that the DEM is getting into the act.

no one is blaming you... trail closures are a sensitive subject and we all take it personally.... it was my understanding that CheapXJ was in contact with the utility company prior to our last run out there.. but as long as that trail is i imagine it must cross or closely border D.E.M. property somewhere..

Scott and I are going to their offices today to find out what the fuck is going on.

I heard about this late last night and this is really not good. :flamemad:

i'd really push the "organized club" angle.... get in touch with dave Brill (toxic turtle) on the CTJeep board for some pointers and ideas how to go about this...

Cheap, what do you think about calling the trail clean-up a chapter event and making a new thread for it? Once you and Scott get the necessary permissions lined up, I think it deserves its own thread.

The farthest end of the trail ends at a reservoir and there is a public DEM control walking/nature trail there along the reservoir and the river that feeds it. Dirtbikers & quads come down from the "main road" side and haul ass down this nature trail(off limits to all motorized access) That's why DEM is getting anal about people using this trail and I think they are starting to "overstep" their boundaries hoping to scare enough people away and try to cut down on people getting onto there land. The trail going down to their land is gated but you can drive up the embankment right next to the gate and the gate is usually unlocked anyways.

TNT, I know exactly the spot to which you are reffering. only been down there once. Franky, to me it isnt really worth going past the second section from the "main road" not much to play on on sections 3 and 4. And now that i know that, I definitly will not be going past section 2

We (in the person of Ryan) are organizing it (with Scott), and we are sanctioning it as an "event." Just need to get permissions and dates confirmed and we'll start a new thread.
