Baby sign language

Teach her the word "No"...... and watch how fast she figures out to use it against you. :laugh3:

A friend of mine didn't want his son saying No all the time, so he would tell him Don't: Don't do this, don't do that, don't go there, but never No. So my friend says to his son, "Time for a bath." The kid's like, "Don't! Don't! Don't!" I'm like, "Dude. I don't think your plan is working."

Our first son rode with his mother to and from day care. He learned to say "Stupid B!7ch!" Except he said it, "Tupid Bit!" He knew when to say it, too. Everytime a car would move into the lane in front of us - "Tupid Bit!" "Tupid Bit!" "Tupid Bit!"

Interesting to see this pop up here.. I'll be teaching my child sign language when he/she is born and so forth.. It's not like I have a choice- I'm deaf myself. I do strongly encourage teaching sign language at any rate to young children because several of my friends have babies and young children and they can sign more than what they can speak. The children are both hearing and deaf.

I was told that kids ususally could not start signing before 7mo. old because their memory recall is limited before that age.

We are expecting another one in April. I'm going to try to start right away just to see if the "experts" are right or not. :)

My wife and I started "baby signing" to our firstborn pretty early. The research indicates that kids brains can process language significantly before they are physically able to speak, so signing encourages this linguistic development. My oldest signed alot, like 50+ signs, until he was speaking. My second, however, while he knows a bunch of signs, won't use them -- he started talking at about 10 months instead, cause he wants to be like his brother... we still do it occasionally since we will be encourageing them to learn ASL in the future, good skill to have...
