I am sorry for the hi-jack...but this----

is all I ever use now-an OTC Ball Joint press.

After installing about 10,000 axle joints, I have found nothing faster or more controlled than a bronze hammer and tap them in by hand.

Yup, you said it there. I've seen more messed up joints because guys are using some sort of press or clamp. One of the mechanics at work showed me how to remove and install them with nothing more than a ball peen hammer and needlenose pliers.

The problem is the PEOPLE using the press, not the press. To each his own I guess.I however have seen people using a ballpeen hamer and socket mess up joints as well..the needle falls in due to shock.:loveu:

i do better on the garage floor with a hammer and a couple old impact sockets than i do trying to balance a drive shaft or axle shaft on a table while holding 2 sockets, the trunion, 2 caps, and tighten a vice or press.

i consider it training. i wont have a fancy vice/press out on the trail with me. chance are ill be smacking my drive shaft with 2 rocks because i threw the hammer into a lake out of frustration if i ever break on the trail.

:anon:
