ax15 shifter question

I don't know, and won't knw=ow until it's open.

luckily I've got the other one, it worked fine in 2-5, but someone had destroyed first.

so at the very least I've got enough hard parts here to make one good AX-15 this weekend. I'd really like it to be a shift fork since I can swap those easy, but if I have to I'll take the first gear cluster out of this one and put it in the other.

just salty about having to capture and keep the $50 worth of gear oil clean....

I know the feeling... I run Amsoil 75w-90 GL4 in mine and that's nearly $13/qt. Good luck with the break down/rebuild. It's really fun stuff; lol.

I tried to find that part on there site but no luck. I need several of those.
Do you have a P/N.?
Thanks

Several of what - the Hurst shift boot? You'll have to call Hurst/B&M in CA and have them look it up as a replacement part for the Wrangler. I get the feeling they don't sell a lot of spare parts. The whole process was a little clumsy. I think the part number is on the packing in my picture above.

There are a few things to be aware of with shifters.

XJs, MJs, and ZJs use a short shift turret.
YJs, TJs, and Dakotas use a tall shift turret.
Pukegoat shifters are different.
Nv3550 shifters are different from pukegoats and AX series.
I think AX4/5 and AX15 shifters fit the same pattern but not sure.
Jeeps use this idiotic square rubber pressfit doohickey to connect the upper and lower halves of the shifter. Dakotas use a nice thread...

I like the dakota shifter and will be using them on every jeep I get in the future. Have had one in my 98 XJ since March, very pleased. You could do a homebuilt short shifter by using a dakota/tj/yj lower shift lever piece and turret, but shorten the upper shift lever piece or make your own. The thing that determines the height of the shifter is adding the below-turret and above-turret height of the shifter, the thing that determines the shift throw is the ratio between them. Basically it is just lever arm lengths.

Here are some parts:

Floor boot, this is for a tj so you have to drill new holes to screw it down at the right clocking, but it works fine:

- #52078970AC
Shift turret boot:

Shift turret bushing, the one the rotator ball of the lower shift lever half rides on:

- #4864226X
Shift lever tip bushing:

- #83500519

You can use those part numbers on jeep4x4center if you don't like quadratec or the price is better.

Good information, although it's unnecessary and more costly to purchase the floor boot for the TJ and drill new holes. Jeep/Chrysler still carries the factory one for the XJ, it's just difficult for the parts managers at the stealership to find it in their system (notice the brand new one in the picture above). Mainly, b/c the image is very generic and doesn't look like the correct part. The p/n is 52104217 and it costs $18.60
