Ok i have a 93 sport with a Ax-15 5 speed trans and np-231 J transfer case. The trans is shot and I need one PDQ and know od a 93 2wd with the ax-15 and am wondering what it will take to bolt the transfer case on it? Anyone with info they can share?

Thanks

to go from a 2WD to 4WD requires taking the trans mostly apart, you have to swap the output shaft and tailcone. I inquired about it when I was looking for an AX-15.

Swapping the output shaft and tailcone is not trivial. It's enough work that it would actually be easier to rebuild your existing tranny with new bearings and synchros. What's the problem anyway? The AX-15 likes high quality synthetic gear oil, btw. Makes a world of difference in shifting, especially when cold. Avoid GL5 as it has a high sulfur content which shortens the life of brass synchros..

Actual problem started a while back with a bad slave got it changed out and the new one was bad changed out the whole clutch this time and it was ok just a little stiff when down shifting the yesterday i got a high pitched whine a bit of what sounded like a coffee grinder when i let off the gas and a loss of power when on the gas and then BANG something went out, cant up or down shift and its locked in third gear. I went ahead and looked in the t-case and its ok (had chain issues a while back)

Yeah, that sounds like a seized bearing or something else just as significant. I was thinking if it was just synchros and noisy bearings, the bearing/brass rebuild kit is $180 and not much more work than swapping input shafts. Depending on what nuked, you may not have a viable output shaft to swap into a 2wd donor.
