OK! so i have a 96 cherokee sport. and i bought a smashed up 94 cherokee. the 94 is a ax15. im pulling the front clip and taking my high miled almost dead motor tranny and tcase right out and putting the 80,000 mile motor, ax15 trans and tcase right in with the matching crossmember and driveshafts. that it is all dandy and easy with some work i understand all that:) BUT what i dont understand is the wiring. i could take all the harnesses out of the 94 and out them in my 96 but im trying to avoid all that work. What im trying to see is if i can keep the ECU and everything and just do some trickery to the computer cause i still wanna inspect it. ill need the reverse lights to work. i understand you need to do something with the nss to a clutch switch so you have to hold the clutch in to turn over the truck just like a new cars. but im confused on wiring theres no real good diagram out there. I JUST NEED A DIRECTION!!! please help theres gotta be a guy out there who has done this swap with these years.......

since i've never done this and going to show my web wheeling inabilities this is what i've found looking into this. i do believe you need the ecu from the 94 that you have, the wiring should be the same. i don't see why you would need to swap all the wiring out. but i'm not 100% on that.

i'd just look at the trans wiring from your 94 to the ecu and they just splice it into your existing trans wiring. if you need an fsm i have one in pdf for a 93. if you think that will help just pm me and i'll send you the link.

Here is what I kow from swapping the motor from a 92 XJ into a 98. Use the intake from the 96 and keep all your sensors. As for the trans wiring you should be able to pull the clutch wire pigtail out of the 94 and plug it into the 96 where the trans controller currently resides. The ECU doesn't care if the auto isn't there, it's going from a manual to an auto that you have the issue. Hope this helps.

^ this
you should be able to get rid of the trans controller and plug in the clutch switch

or be ghetto and splice the neutral safety switch wires together and voila the jeep thinks its in park and will run and drive fine. But the starter will engage without the clutch depressed

if you want to do it correctly[OEM] you can wire a CSS to the clutch pedal or.....loop the NSS by just soldering the wires together, and while your at it the reverse lights are in the same harness with the NSS so you just need to splice the 2 wire plug in order to plug into the reverse switch

NSS loop = connecting B+C
reverse lights = splicing A+E to plug
