AW4 and dana 300?

Hey all,

I'm new here but not new to jeeps by any means but have several questions about putting a flipped dana 300 behind an AW4? I'm pretty sure it can be done but the main thing I guess I need to know is will I need a clocking ring? 7/8 or 5/8? Do I need it for proper spline engagement and rotation or both? I'm almost positive it has been done before just trying to do my homework before all this goes together in my jeep.

Thanks in advance for any and all replies.

I have one behind an aw4. I used a Novack adapter for the dana 300 to ax15 but I soon found out that there were a couple of problems. The mounting flange on the aw4 is thicker than the ax15 and requires longer mounting studs. Also the 3/4 inch adapter plate wasn't thick enough unless you machined off the front bearing retainer on the d300. Novack made me a thicker adapter plate and things worked fine. The thickness is about .9 inches. This added thickness also allowed for a double lipped seal on the input of the d300. My case is not flipped since since it is going on a cj8.
