Automatic Transmission Rebuild Needed

An old friend of mine need his AW4 rebuilt in his Cherokee. Does anybody know of a good shop for him to bring it to to have it rebuilt? He is located in Livermore so something around there should do nicely.


Or does anybody here want to rebuild his AW4? He has a 73 Plymouth duster project with a good motor and transmission that he can trade, I'm sure he would be fine paying outright too.

Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated!

grab a junkyard AW4. or a known to be good used one.

what year range does he need? 21 or 23 spline ?

It's a 99 so a 23 spline. I don't think he wants to replace it though. Sounds like he wants a rebuild.

The 98+ aw4 are somewhat hard to find anyway he might have to look for a while. My dad is currently getting his tranny in his work van rebuilt. One of his friends has ran a trans shop for 30+ years. I'll ask him who it is again

thats good to know. my friend Rob paid around 2800$ to have his AW4 rebuilt. I figure a 100$ used tranny doesn't sound so bad.

yuck, I've only ever paid 100 for a transmission, and i've always gotten more with it. you can get a 97 transmission to work in a 98+ by the way, slightly less rare than the later models. Im guessing it's a 4x4 yeah?
