Aussie Locker coming for the 8.25

They are $299 on Aussielocker.com

Thats the only place you can get them right now.

Thats why I thought the guy that said $400 was drinking. :)

That was including installation I'm not going to buy it and not have it installed. I'd rather give my bud $50-100 to put it in and save my self all the haslle and chance that I'll F something up or need a tool in the middle. I wasn't very clear :peace:

By the way this is AWSOME :woohoo:
Cant wait to hear some reports of how it is.

Drew, I did the same! I'm staying with the 8.25 since I have a couple extra's for parts and the Aussie/4.88's are now out for this rear!

Yeah, it's a tough choice for me, especially with the growing aftermarket of the 8.25. I don't plan to go bigger than 35s, and I'm sure it would hold up to them just fine. I've beat the hell out of it welded on 33s with no problems.

On the other hand, since it's welded I need a carrier, and I would want to rotate the perches and add discs as well. Either one would be about the same amount of work. After adding it all up, it would "only" save me about $160 to keep the 8.25, but that's $160 I could put toward alloy shafts, or some other part...

I'm leaning toward keeping the 8.25, but I sold my truck and need to get the XJ road friendly ASAP. My stang isn't exactly a winter car. Jon, you don't happen to have any open 29 spline carriers lying around, do you?

Hmm.... finally time to add it to the list :D

I don't have an 8.25 any more. But I was just wondering...

Is this locker for an open or trac-loc carrier? I'm ass-uming that it's for an open carrier. Which would mean that people with a trac-loc 8.25 would have to buy a new carrier as well?

You guys going to ever do anything for us the 8.25 27 spline? I already have alloy shafts and would hate to get another set of alloys just to do the 29 spline aussie

One miracle at a time ;)

Well get them!!! :D

or

Here ya go, I saw this the other day. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Part...543|39:1|65:12|240:1318&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245

I'm sitting here right now comparing the differences between my keeping my 8.25, or swapping in an 8.8 as I had originally planned :dunno:
I have a lockrite in the rear now. I'm not exactly thrilled with it so if/when it breaks I might pop for some alloy USA axles and an aussie. For now I have an extra set of 27 spl axles.

Can anyone tell me if this can be installed in vehicle, or does the ring gear have to come off like it did on my D30. IE carrier removal.

Anyone?

No the rg does not have to be removed. The test install we did took about 45 minutes from time the Jeep was on the rack to putting new fluid back in the diff and getting ready for the test drive. We have done a number of Aussie Locker installs so we are not saying that 45 minutes is a standard time, but this is a very straight forward locker installation.

Thanks for the answer. It's not like pulling the carrier was a big thing, I just didn't want to do more work than was necessary. One more quick question? Do you have a list of distributor's or do we have to buy directly from Aussie?

New models we tend to carry on an exclusive basis for about a month from date of introduction to get a direct feel for the market and any questions. So currently you would need to purchase from us direct at our web site of www.aussielocker.com

Thank you

if i get one for 29 psline 3.55 gears...
do i need to get another one for higher gears or is it transferable....
this question was asked earlier but never answered...(i guess i should ask the same for the D30 too?)

No, the 8.25 carrier break is somewhere before 3.55 so if you regear you will use that same carrier, and same aussie. The dana 30 is different, to go above 3.73 you need a new carrier, but the aussie should work for either carrier.
