Attention car audio experts

I'm planning on putting a 10" sub in my '01 dodge ext. cab. I've found a place that makes some custom sealed enclosures that fit under the rear seat. My question is, does it make a difference in the sound if the sub is firing down or forward? This company has a single forward firing box, and a duel downward firing box.

Just looking for some opinions. Thanks

Personally I prefer my subs to fire down, or toward the back of the vehicle. I just like the way they sound that way. It seems like you get deeper bass that way, 'cause you don't hear the higher frequency's from the sub as well.

Lower frequency audio is non-directional, so you can pretty much fire them anywhere. You'll also find they penetrate upholstery rather well.

Given that, I do tend to prefer to fire them into a large panel, or through a seat cushion, for the reasons that scooby gave - to attenuate any lingering high-frequency output that makes it through the crossover and amplifier (there's always some.) It's a sort of "final filtering process" that can easily be applied with a little planning.

That makes sense. Looks like I'll run two 10" subs then.

Anybody have anything good or bad to say about infinity subs? I've already replaced the door speakers with infinity speakers, and thought I'd get some matching subs.

Thanks for the info.

I have heard they sound ok, but there are others that sound better, and hit harder for the money. I don't think you would go wrong by getting them, but what you need to be doing is using a brand, and or model that will make the best use of the box size you are getting. You want to match the subs recommended cubic foot box size to the box you're getting. Doing that will allow it to perform the best.

Personally I prefer Kicker SoloBaric's. I have two of the old round style tens on a Kicker Zr 360 into 2 ohms (about 500w), and most that hear them can't believe they're tens in a sealed box. Those new L7's pound something fierce, sound awesome, and are quite flexible as to what kind of box they're in too.

I have a single 12" Infinity Reference series in a sealed box, and I love it.
I just wanted something to fill out the low end of my system, scoobyxj is right about others that will hit harder for the money.
