are 8.25's usually a little noisy?

I've noticed more than what I'd consider normal gear whine on the 2000. Since I've only had D35's and a D44, I thought maybe it could be normal before I start worrying about pulling it out.
So does yours whine a bit? It's pretty noticeable at around 50mph.

that's basically what a search turned up, it's tough to quantify a noise over the interweb so I guess I'll get an opinion on it.

Pop the cover and have a look. Abnormal wear is generally pretty obvious.

No unusual noise noted for 8.25.

Rumbles and growls are either bad bearings, or not enough coffee/doughnuts in the morning.

Whinning is usualy gear noise or bad temperment.

Edit: OK, it could hurt if you drained it and the oil had sparkles or chunks in it. LOL That would be painful.

no growls, just a loud howl on throttle. usual gear whine sound but louder.

I've had a 29spline 8.25 in my 99 and swapped in a 27spline 8.25 on my 92. Neither have produced any sort of noise, in fact there is no axle that should have gear noise as a normal thing.

I don't know that's completely accurate, I haven't heard many diffs that don't whine at least a little.

Popped the cover, fluid was clean, very clean so I assume it's been changed recently and all the gears looked pretty much new.

I have a whine since I went to 4:56 gears. I cannot tell if it is the D30 or the 8.25. It is a low speed whine and that is hard to hear, unless the radio is off and the windows are up. This is my first re-gear, so I have no previous experience.

I was told here, that the lower the gearing the more likely you'll hear a whine.

We popped the covers to check for wear at 600 miles and everything looked peachy!

Did you have the tires off the ground when you pulled the cover and drained the fluid? Did you give the diff a good spin? If the carrier bearings were worn, you should have been able to hear them with the fluid drained and a good spin of the tires.

it's bone stock dude.
I'm not going to lift this 2000, just fix up a couple annoyances and drive it.
