Since you're already looking at a grand in parts and labor, go ahead and spend the extra couple hundred on the larger, upgraded axle shafts. I.e., get a 'super 35' kit from Superior, Alloy USA, or the like. In fact, I thought (but not sure) that ARB didn't even make the locker anymore for the stock 27 spline shafts. I thought you had to upgrade. Been running a super 35 for a couple years on my TJ with no complaints. Should be good to 33" (or even larger if you baby it).

I'm running the d35 too. running 32's, 4.56's and a detriot and so far no problems. But if you are able to, i would recommend the 30 spline kit, that extra $200 or so is probably worth it because breaking an axle on the trail is something I dont want to experience.

Your best bet would be to ditch the turdy five!
That axle isn't worth spending any money on. Stronger shafts won't help the weak axle tubes, spider sears, and ring and pinion.
Look into swapping in a 8.8 from a exploder. You get 31 spline shafts and a disk brake upgrade. Weld the axle tubes, lock it, wheel it!
Of course this isn't the only option by far, my 29 spline 8.25 has been fine on 33s, and was a CHEAP upgrade from the D35 I killed...... open on 31s! You should be able to put this axle in, locked with an ARB, for LESS than a super 35 kit.
By doing this you won't have that little voice in the back of your head saying "I want to try this obstacle...but is my axle going to break?" Even if your just running 30s for now, you'll probably want to go bigger eventually.

I ran my ARB D35 with 33's for many years. It will survive...BUT

I don't run rocks
I am easy on the skinny pedal.
I am easy off-road.
I was very slow and carful.

I did eventually bend my D35, destroying the ARB, and went to a D44.

I have one on my dana 35 with 31 I got a great deal on it but cant wait to upgrade the rear axle...this next summer i am getting rid of the 35 if i can...so keep an eye out for a used arb for the 35

If you put an ARB in the 35 you would be wasting your money. Eventually your going to get "inchitis" and want a bigger lift and need bigger tires. Save your money and get a 29 spline 8.25, 44, or 8.8.

I had/will have again a d35 with a limited slip, and 4.56's with 33inch Yokohama geolander at+2's and I have put it through some carnage, and the only thing I did was !finally! break an axle on Kodiac in Uwharrie(trust me I was giving her hell, bouncing and all). I would say if you plan on really wheeling it then be very careful, as to not ruin the new add-on$ you just bought(ARB). If you really want to have a bit more fun with not having to worry about your rear end breaking all the time then go with a d44 or maybe even a 29 spline 8.25, or 8.8. JOE>
