Well, I found out during the snow run that my front locker was fubar. Air was blowing out the diff vent.
So, yesterday I got after figuring out the issue/s. Pulled the cover only to find the copper line mangled and a couple of pieces loose inside. The tube came in contact with the gears. Not sure how this happened. I do remember routing the tube to prevent this. The gear oil had a nice copper tint to it.
I noted that about 4-5" of good line was left attached to the seal housing. Now, I needed a plan. A plan that did not include removal of the differential.
The plan:
1. Remove bulkhead fitting from housing.
2. Find a 1/4" NTP plug and install in orignal port location.
3. Find and drill/tap new port closer to seal housing.
4. Reinstall bulkhead fitting in new port location.
5. Clean diff housing and diff.
6. Replace cover and fill.
7. Test locker.
The execution:
1. Flawless.
It's rare, but I love it when a plan comes together.
