So I've been driving my jeep for a week now and have had it offroad on easy stuff with deer opener and now have a couple questions.

First, mine is automatic so the shiftier show 1/2, 3, OD and so on. If I'm going down a long hill and want to use the motor/tranny instead of riding the brakes I put it in 4 low and in the 1/2 it is to slow and in 3 it is to fast. Is there a way to get it to kick into second? My brother thought maybe in 4 low and the selector in 1/2 it might default to 2nd gear and 1st is not an option.

Second anyone know of a way to make the cigarette lighter port full time power? The AUX is always on and the lighter port is only hot with the ignition on. If the truck is off and I need to charge to devices it is a no go.

And the last one. Today the starter jammed up and it wouldn't turn over. I banged it with a metal rod and all is well. This is the only time it has done it in the week I've owned this rig and since banging it I have had to stop and restart the engine 4 times with no issues. It would suck to get stuck out in BFE over a dead starter so I'm inclined to replace it but before spending the time and money I figured it couldn't hurt to ask if this is something that just happens from time to time.

Thank you all, any input is appreciated.

on your first item, yes you can get the trans to stay in 2nd by installing a switch. there are a few different ways and configurations you can do this. these are 2 write ups i used when I did mine:
http://www.go.jeep-xj.info/HowtoAutoSwitch.htm
http://articles.jeepforum.com/XJ_AW4_TCU_Shift_Mod

also id recommend the torque converter lock up switch for highway driving. I have a trans temp gauge and when I lock up the converter the temps drop drastically. I had no problems with my converter locking prior to installing the switch I just wanted to know it was working 100%

You can add a 2nd gear switch or an RAD shifter to manually pick your gears.

I have my phone charger in my AUX port and my GPS in my cigarette lighter, if you wanted you could add a splitter to your AUX port if needed.

Sounds like a failing starter, I'd replace it.

Thank you everyone for the fast responses, I really appreciate it.

Sideways I have a 2000.

Mako I did a little report on SCH here:

I'm pretty confident in my little spot, tons of deer sign, zero boot prints from anyone other than me and my brother and it is so freaking tough to get into and out of I doubt I'll ever see another hunter there. It is actually brutal enough getting into I'm honestly worried about tagging a deer and how the hell I'll get it out of there. It is going to be a long tough day when I down one thats for sure.

Thank you I read both. It seems relitivatly easy and what I'm looking for.

You can engine brake when driving in 4 Low by driving in 3 then downshifting to 1/2. this will shift the tranny into second gear. Watch the RPMs though, if they fall to ~1500 the transmission will drop back into first. Its a bit to get used to but you will quickly learn where the shift point is.
