Anyone up for a trail ride at Cracker Neck?

My local club has gone to this place a few times in the last month or so, the riding is great. Lots of rock gardens, hill climbs etc.Nice thing is several of the trails split to where the rock gardens are optional, meaning there is always a sopmewhat groomed trail running beside the obstacles. We have gone with guys who were open and on 31's who have riden with guys locked on 44's. The place is in Mt. City Tenn. 25minutes from Boone, NC. There are resturants and hotels within 5 to 10 minutes of the trail head, nowhere near remote as Tellico and there are some obstacles as difficult as the last ledge on lower 2( wich I personally think is the worst Tellico has to offer). Very scenic trails and private land $11 a day to ride and no eco-nazis. Also 5 miles away is another piece of land owned by the same people with plenty more trails, not as many rock gardens but several obstacles. Any interest in going let me know, I'm up for about any weekend being as its only a couple of hours from my house in Greensboro. By far much better the Uwharrie for just a little longer trip for me anyway.

Saturday will probably work, I'll probably be bringing a couple of buddies, one with a ZJ on 33's 4.88s and locked, the other with a stretched TJ 350 and 38's...I'll let ya know more definate in a couple of days..Greg

If I can get outta work Friday afternoon then I might be able to drive up there Friday and wheel Saturday with you guys. I am deploying the week after that so this will be my last trip for a couple months and I want to make it a good one. I'd be interested in picking in for a cabin for Friday night but I'll probably just want to drive home Saturday night. Let me know what is going on.

I'm leaving from Greensboro Saturday morning, wheeling for the day and returning that evening. I'm thinking 10 a.m. in the Food Lion parking lot would be a good time and place to meet, it's right on 421 and right at the intersection you turn at to go to the trail head, sound good?

I want to go but I can't make it, you guys have fun.

I know but I was so sad that I could not make I could not post till after you went. :laugh3:

well you missed out on a good time.. would have been nice to see another XJ out there... i'm not counting greg's mj because that thing is just plain sick.

if anyone knows the guy with the YJ (from what i heard he got it off some guy named bob) let me know if hes on a board or something.

Enjoyed riding with you guys, we had a little more snow than I anticipated, hope yall had a good time. I posted a link to your pics on NC4x4.com under the past events section. The guys name who had the YJ is Patrick, I posted the pics over there so he could see them as well. Maybe we can get another ride from here organized , the place is a lot of fun and not remote like many trails. Anyway, nice to meet you guys good luck overseas...Greg

Hey greg, i just signed up to join NC4x4's fourm, but i guess i have to wait for something. i was actually riding along in the green XJ, his name is Ryan (classicXJ). He is locked front and rear and is rolling on 32" MT/R's. Unfortunatly all the times there was much action i was riding along, thus no action photos. My jeep is all stock, aside from some tow points and lights, and i don't think i would have made it very far being open. The way things are going i'm going to be stock for at least a year and a half (basically once i'm out of college). So right now riding along is the only way i'm getting my jeepin. i had a great time watching the big boys do their stuff and getting some pics. if you want some higher resolution pics from that day let me know, i'll trade you for some of that video footage ;)

You would be amazed how far a stock XJ will go, just ask people I wheeled with, was open on both ends and on 30's.

The one with F&R arbs was having some issues in spots on the trail. If I stopped forward movement and the restarted, it sometimes took 6 grands and 4 psi. in the tires to start up the trail again. I agree it is amazing how well some do open, but not that day.
