Anyone Own a Starion/Conquest?

Fun and quick cars. My buddy and his dad had three of them in the 90's, and his dad still has his. Rust was an issue, and cracking cylinder heads. Something to do w/the jet valve? OTT, very reliable autos. Those 2.6l mitsu motors, turbo or not, were hard to kill.

Good luck. Nice car, I'm jealous.

I gotcha, thanks for clearing that up. That IS what I thought, but I had people telling me it's a DSM while others swore it's not.

Going to see/work on it tonight. Grabbing more photos of course as well. 2-4 weeks until it'll be road worthy.. can't wait!

I own a 87 Shelby Charger, see my screen name. I have owned it since 97 and it currently has 70K on it. I have done a ton of work to it to make it an 11 sec car. It currently has .30 overbore, 22 psi, 75 horse shot of juice, 2 1/2 exhaust, custom ECU, t3/4 hybrid turbo with ceramic bearings and clipped compressor wheel, and I have done a TII conversion with extrude honed head and manifolds.

I have been around the Turbo Mopar for a few years...

And the one I should have kept but let get away.

Sorry for the thread jack. Enjoy your Diamond Star. They are fun cars!

Ohhhhhh, nice looking L-Bodies, I used to have a H-Body Lebaron GTS Turbo and a Shadow ES Turbo, wouldn't mind finding another H-Body two someday.

I miss my 85 Shelby Charger :eye: I was part of the SDAC for a while back in the 90's

Nice Ride BTW!

Had an 85 Starion years ago. Fun little car. I couldn't believe how much the plastic body parts were, or how cheap the brake parts were. I was told they used some of the running gear from the Mitsu Max/D50s?

Very nice Conquest! And yes, parts will be hard to come by, junkyard for most anything outside of powertrain & tuneup stuff. The 2.6 is the same basic engine that came out in the '79 D-50 truck and found it's way into lots of vehicles. Bottom end is bulletproof, and the top end is pretty stout, too! I knew a guy with a pro-built Plymouth Fire Arrow (look that one up!) that was built for off-road rallying, and won everything in site in the western US, did well in international rallys as well. Again, same 2.6 engine w/o the intercooled turbo. Another friend raced his Conquest at Willow Springs against a bunch of Alfas & some Porsches, his first time out, and took first place...

And unbelievable Rampage! I had a '83 version, and always wanted to convert it to a 2.2 turbo; never got around to it though. I almost bought one in the same red/silver paint scheme ('85?) that was a total due to a wiring fire under the hood, otherwise like new. Nice finds!!!

A buddy of mine had a fairly well-to-do girlfriend that had a metallic blue Starion she bought brand new....... I had to admit - I really liked that car. Definitely had and still has that rareness that keeps folks guessing what it is.

There's a small car lot out here that has a Rampage up on a rack painted up with Denver Bronco's logos and colors as a business display I suppose. Super straight but I imagine the motor was blown or some other "fatal" issue that caused the dealership owner to do that to it.....

I think the 2.6 is the same as the trucks 2.6 other than the addition of the balance shafts and its a good idea to remove those anyways.

These cars were stupid expensive when they were new. IIRC the title on mine said original cost was $27K in 1987. I paid $1600 for and it was mint but needed tires and a clutch.

Still hating you BTW Ghost lol

Blue, do you hate me more now (links to photos I took last night lol):

Thanks! I was part of the SDAC from 95-01 when I was driving TDs daily. I keep in touch with a few of the guys from there still. Mainly Alan Jones and Guy Pagen. My DD was a 89 Daytona Shelby (black) and my wife either drove her 89 Daytona ES or her 89 Turbo Mini.

I am a Turbo Dodge nut and really miss driving the Shelby. If it was a 86 or older I would drive it more but being a 87 makes it just too rare for me to risk getting totalled.

GhostDak, It looks like you have a little work ahead of you before you get that car road ready!

Have fun with it and take your time. It will be a blast to drive once it is done.

Still some hate, but not as much LOL I forgot how "fun" it was to work on :D.

I like how they cut the airbox out but left the cardboard cork in the air sensor lol. Looks like a clean car it will be fun.

Jeep = staying at 2" lift and 31's. My MPG is bad enough!! lol. At least the Conquest has a low drag coefficient so it won't be horrible on the highways :) When you getting a bike, man?

well i got the jeep bug again after the jamboree, im comp cutting it this week hopefully, its getting a front 44, 37s and a cage not necissarily in that order

One of my friends brother's had a starion, then one of his friends totaled it. They were telling me it was really fast... I see this one driving down the road every once in a while.
