For the week of the 21st to the 25th of July it is my wife's and youngests birthday. The wife wants to get away for 4 days and visit the grand canyon and other places. I was thinking it would be nice to be able to drop anywhere and stay in a pop up trailer on this little excursion.

I find RV America only rents RV's, we are taking the XK (Commander) which could easily tow a pop-up trailer.

Does anybody know where you could rent one, or know of anyone that has one that would rent it out for fair price?

I did find this place; http://www.adventurecamper.com/AC-CamperRentals-OurRates.HTML

I rented from those guys a couple of Easter jeep safaris ago. They treated me very well and i would recommend them for sure. Even though they are a little pricey I couldn't find anyone else that had good quality campers for rent. I looked at a couple private owners that i found off craigs list, but either the people or their trailers were a little sketchy.

theres a place forget the name off of 287 by lakewood. that rents pop ups, rvs so on. if i remember right its were 36 used to go thru. nexted to a auto dealer and a mmj shop..

also a couple adds on criagslist for bigger companys that rent them out.

Skully, just rent a Class C. The kind RV American rents. You'll save on eating out. Honestly a Pop-Up can be a real PITA if you have only set it up once. It took me about 6-7 times to get used to the one we bought years ago.

Gas will probably be about the same as the loaded down V8 pulling a pop-up too.

FWIW, I towed a 1 ton pop-up (Coleman Santa Fe) from Chicago to Moab 3 times. IIRC, mileage ran 12-14 mpg round trip (might be wrong, it's been 8 years.)

I rented a pop-up once before I bought mine. If it took you a half a dozen times to figure it out, yer doin' something wrong. :illegalflipoffsmilie:

Good for you.

Family camping with two young kids(like Skully has)in our Pop-up was not that friendly to me the first few times. Not to mention...it's no vacation in my book.

Skully, don't take the risk of "doing it wrong" and just rent the class C, or get a hotel. Take it from a camper... With young kids and wife that works her ass off...she's gonna want to relax...which means you'll want to make YOUR life easy on a trip like this.

Whatever you decide, have a good time. The Grand Canyon is sweet. We took our two boys there are few years ago(hotel'ed it). It was awesome.

Thanks JohnJohn, right now the plans are all in scramble mode. I is a broke arse bitch, and we are going to do this on the super low ball budget. Talked for a year about doing it and then got really tight financially last 6-7 months, July came up on us way too fast!

After figuring out the cost of the pop-up through the company I found, it is out of reach at the moment, so would the RV. I will look around but I guess for three nights stay it would be cheaper for a hotel, or the back of the Commander, an air mattress, and a tent. We will be better planned next year with a vacation savings fund, got a year to plan. :D

Unless all my good karma and luck come in to play here before the end of the month.............................

There was a place I saw in Berthoud a couple of years back that rented them. I don't know if they are still around.

I understand my friend. Things are way to tight around here too. I would probably try and get back in the finance business, but there isn't one anymore. Atleast the $12 billion niche I was in.

Your kids aren't in school yet right? Maybe put it off till Late Sept or early Oct. I would bet that's off season and could get a decent deal on a room.
