Which 20 HP Kohler do you have Bob?
I saw some as "cheap" as $500 on the small engine warehouse site, that's a brandy new motor with a new carb and all. just bolt it up and add fuel.
Really though I don't see why you couldn't rebuild yours, cars with aluminum heads get rebuilt all the time, and it sounds like your bottom end is good, so I'd do rings and gaskets. Or just run it smoky for the next ten years.
