Just curious if it was easy or a Pain. I can swap stuff like Ca legal cat on it, and ca o2 sensor, and stuff like that. Just wondering if its impossible or what?
You shouldnt need to do any special smog stuff, Im pretty sure that vehicles that werent originally sold under CA emissions requirements are only subject to the federal requirements (as far as equipment is concerned). They wont check for a CA legal cat on a Cherokee unless its obviously a new one, since that law is only a handful of years old and obviously Cherokees are not just a handful of years old. Plus, any Jeep that runs respectably well and has a cat blows the maximum numbers way out. I think mine has a slight miss at part throttle and it wasnt even remotely close to failing
You will need a VIN verification and it will have to pass smog at the standard that the emissions label shows. If its a federal emission rig, then those standards, if its CA then its gotta pass that level. Very easy to do, done it at least twice.
Years ago there used to be an "environmental impact fee" for any vehicle registered in California from out of state, regardless of what emissions were on the vehicle. But the state got into trouble for that and had to stop charging that fee and, if I remember my ancient history (late 1980's) they even had to reimburse some people.
