Anybody game for a mini-wrenchfest?

I gotta do my rear main seal ASAP as it has left us with only 1 working vehicle. I already have the beast in the garage on ramps. That and most of my tools were stolen while we lived in Chi-town...

Grrrr...

Anybody have a torpedo heater?

:D

I doubt I'll have time. But if El Jefe is going, you guys are welcome to borrow my propane torpedo......

Yeah, but I don't think it'd do you much good down here.

:shiver:

Bet it'd do you more good than me. Supposed to get down close to zero tonight.

Wish I could help, Gil. Been on flying runs through Chicago twice in the last 2 weeks, and not about to budge from home this weekend.

Not the best time of year I know...

I did it on Skanky about 8 years ago and I'm dreading it...

on the upside...

I wont have to do it in a driveway anymore!

I'll be up in the area Dec 21, if you can make it a week I may be able to stop by.

Thanks for the offer...

I really HOPE to have it done by then.

I crawled undeneath it tonight to confirm it and yes... it's coming right from the rear main area. No oil from the back of the valve cover and none from the the oil filter area.

I am so dreading this. It has a POS factory skidplate and the OEM rubber/whatever splashshield is still intact. On the lifted rig the oil pan is so accessible.

This bringeth teh suck.

Any idea what a shop what charge? I'm debating using the emergency credit card.

Fawking cheap seal.

Sorry Gil....really busy this time of year as I am sure you can imagine.

Depending on the miles a shop may not want to touch it....I ended up replaicng the engine when mine finally let go at 150K.

Shop quoted me around $600 for the rear main seal. Ridiculous for a damn rubber seal. They actually said they were going to pull the tranny, but everyone online says that just dropping the oil pan suffices. Check this link for some help.

Thanks...

I've done a rear main seal before... see post #5.

It's not about not being able to do the repair...

Just dreading it.
