Harleys are not sport bikes. Nice for cruising, but generally too heavy and slow to flick out of the way when some soccer mom yakking on the phone while applying makeup and texting, or some sleep-deprived truck driver, decides to occupy your lane.
The preponderance of retards on the road paying attention to everything but their driving has left me with little to no desire to own a bike any more, even though I put many thousands of miles on several different bikes, and some of the best times of my life were on bike trips with my friends. But back then, we could head 5-10 miles south west and be out in the sticks, and even in suburbia people were not talking on phones or watching TV while driving.
If I were to get another bike , it would need to be at least as fast as my V65 Sabre was, but lighter and more maneuverable, or a dual sport that I could ride through a ditch or median strip after getting cut off. But first I would need to move away from at least most of the morons on the road in this area.
First bike I rode on the street was my friends 06 1200 sportster with these pipes.
Was on my way to return the bike when I was about 50 yards from an intersection someone pulled out in front of me. I locked up the rear tire and somehow didn't do anything. Second time out riding it, was meeting up with some other riders in a parking lot and a van almost pulled out in front of me again (of course this was after I laid it down and did 30 dollars in damage).
No matter how loud or how bright your lights are, people will not see a motorcyclist or misjudge how fast they are going. I would still be able to ride it today had he not sold it.
I have also ridden a 883 Sportster and two Victory motorcycles. I much prefer this bike.
Same price as a Harley, more balanced for riding (600 pounds but did not feel like it).
It doesn't matter what you ride as long as you ride (including scooters).
I actually picked up Suzuki GS750 for free last summer. Bike was sitting for about 7 years. Rusted tank. Didn't really get to ride it, spent most of my time cleaning out carbs, doing the front fork and fixing leaking gas tank. Still runs like crap and now XJ is my project for now but it's going to be my first sports bike. I can't wait to get it going this season. Sorry no pic yet, besides spray paint job I did came out really bad. But I be sure to share it when I have it out.
I'm with John...too many morons...the very first time I rode a bike on the road I nearly got creamed...plus as long as I have a company car with free gas a bike isn't cheaper...
if i want the open road or the wind in my face i'll buy another wrangler...(which owning one last summer was fun)
Pic of my 2001 Yamaha R6 that I sold 3 years ago. I miss riding everyday, especially this time of year. I used to borrow a 2008 ZX6R from a friend cause he never rode it, but another friend who used to borrow it as well, totaled it.
I am not trying to start an argument and I agree that some drivers do not see bikes and cut them off, but if we all were afraid to get into accident. we would be better off staying home and not coming out at all. There is a chance you can get hit driving a car, there is a chance you can get hit by a drunk driver right outside of your house.
It just doesn't make sense to me. I love riding bikes but I am afraid I get into accident.
Out of all the bikes riders I see. I bet most of them not only do not know how to ride a bike, but don't have bike license.
I agree, one time I cut off a biker with my car, the asswipe was trying to pass me on the right side, while I was making a right turn. Go figure.
I ride a 2002 Honda CBR-954RR w/ full mods. I run it at the drag strip and hit the twisties with it every year. 369lb dry weight and 154hp at the tire makes it a fun day =)
