Like they say....Mi sucks:laugh2: Im in the Detroit area but I go up to Kalkaska/Gaylord area in the summer. The mounds are up in the Flint area. Silver lake out on the Lake Mich. side. St Helen area? The mounds area has lots of mud. Im old so my mud bogging days are over. Ill watch. Young guys in Mi. probably go for mud. Im still working on my 2000 . Waiting for a 5.5 t&t long arm kit to get here and trying to decide on tires.

mounds is open year round, but go with a buddy, because there are some surprize mud holes hidden under snow/ice (if there is any)

If you want to go, register a sn at the forum I posted, and make a post in the trip calendar to say that you are looking to go to the mounds, and see who else wants to go.

Also check out www.greatlakes4x4.com if you want a mounds run, they go there a lot.

the mounds suck.

go south to wheel, or drummond island for some not so challenging wheeling.

I'm from MI.

I agree that the mounds sucks, but some guys LOVE the mud

Badlands is the best place within a six hour drive, it has everything. Wellsville, OH is similar in distance and somewhat in terrain. And the U.P. has a new offroad park called Turtle Ridge (on drummond island) and everyone seems to really like it. It seems that any other place to wheel than these requires more than just a weekend adventure trip. You gotta get a few days off work and travel for a day.

Not a lot of "real" challenges, sometimes you have to XXXX.
<edit:The MWC nor NAXJA does not condone illegal 'wheeling!>

Not a lot of "real" challenges, sometimes you have to blaze your own trail.

careful, that's not legal. you can NOT wheel anywhere in MI unless the trail is marked open, if it's not marked, it's NOT open.

Silver Lake, Mounds and Drummond Island are the only true legal places in the state to wheel.

You can 2-track, but keep in mind that the DNR will give you a ticket if your grandmothers station wagon can't go there.

Never have had a problem ever. The trails I blaze are in areas that have been so fu%!ed up by logging and the military running tanks over the the trees and exploding the hillsides that you really couldn't damage things any more than they are already. I do understand your concerns but its usually the people doing doughnuts all over the place and leaving a real mess behind the screw it up for everyone else. I guess that's why there are so many web wheelers here in MI. I think we should start a new sport here "Stump Crawling" the trees are disappearing pretty fast around the state. Urban Sprawl is everywhere.

Kind of sad.

Wellsville is OFFICIALLY CLOSED http://www.ec4wda.org/landuse.asp?ID=110. No matter what any goofballs on the Internet say otherwise, it is completely illegal without dated, written permission of the landowners. (Actually, it always has been illegal, technically.) As far as Michigan's "trails," there are none for anything over 50" wide. Over 50" wide, they're known as "Routes."

MI sucks.

Especially the terrain for our hobby.

Maybe not as bad as the choke kings at U of M though.

Illegal is illegal.

Please refrain from posting additional illegal wheeling information or pictures in this forum....or any other for that matter. Illegal wheeling is a problem that affects us all, no matter where we live or where it is done.

There is NO excuse for not wheeling in legal areas......ONLY.

Sounds like you have already given up the fight. Not me. The day will come when all wheeling on public lands will cease and it wont be because of illegal wheeling. It will be from over use. Every day more and more people are joining our sport and soon the government will use that as its new excuse. Have they opened Spider lake yet? I don't know, all I do know is they closed it because of people pissing and shitting everywhere not from illegal wheeling. Sorry if I've offended anyone that is not my goal and I'm not looking for a web fight I just believe in freedom of speech and mine is done. :peace:

Hey I would start kissing ass today if I thought it would do any good. I love this sport and have great respect for our environment. I'm just afraid of what could happen. I hope I'm wrong. Sorry for hijacking your thread OKEE420.

There is no reason at all to wheel illegally....period.

If an area is closed due to "overuse" and that area was not open to wheeling, then there should be no overuse.

Fact is illegal wheeling IS a MAJOR problem that our sport, NAXJA, and the MWC cannot allow.

Due to this fact, this thread is now closed.
