Yeah, that is what i figured. I've been military my whole life: grandfather, father, brother, myself. You hear about it all the time, and of course it upsets you, but it is a differant story when it is someone you know, or even chat with on the boards.

Finally got my latches! First vendor screwed around for a week before feeding me some B.S. about the latch no longer being made anywhere by anyone. I ordered from another vendor right after Thanksgiving and they shipped the following Monday.
I'm going to weld the barrel to a couple of gussets on the bumper in this position so that the plunger goes into the open end of the main tube on the swing out.

A simple pull on the handle retracts the plunger allowing the carrier to swing open.
