Another couple lost in the woods.

the news said they got there truck stuck in a creek after the snow came in, they broke into a cabin and survived off tomato soup and popcorn for 3 days. pretty stupid!! as stated its common sense, tell people where you are going and do not change plans.

The family didn't know where they were off to, so they checked the credit card records to get an idea, but the cops wouldn't launch a search party based only on that. Since the cops wouldn't launch a search party, the family rented the chopper themselves.

On last nights news the woman's brother was calling the boyfriend "Stupid" "Arrogant" & "Dumb". It will make for some interesting family dinners! :gag:

The comments about the article on SFgate.com, the website of the San Francisco Chronicle, were brutal. The photo (see link in original post) of the couple had the guy holding something, some called it a bong, some called it a light sabre but the guys aunt called it a "flashlight" he was excited to get as a gift.
 
So then these folks weren't really lost at all then. Why didn't the "lost" couple telephone someone when/where they used the cc? And certainly if they were able to use a cc their cells must have worked.

Something doesn't jive with this story. The BS meter is pegged.
 
I think there's a disconnect here.

If I'm reading and hearing this right, they mentioned they were going to the Sierra's to go camping and would be back Monday.

Monday came and went and they were nowhere to be found.

The family started tracking the couples CC records and found they were not in the Sierra's but were up in Lake County.

More CC info came in further confirming they were in Lake County, family hires helicopter search company, "free spirits" found. Family all pissy about government not blowing thousands of dollars to search.

So I don't think it was an incident of them using their CC's after they were missing, just the family looking at transactions before they were "missing" to try and determine where they were.
 
Just got back from Upper Lake where my Mom was telling me this story. The only place outside Upper Lake we figured they could get stuck in a river is out by the CC Camp but that is a few miles from town and the area is populated with several year round residents.

Elk Mountain and Bartlett Springs areas looked to get their fair amount of snow though. Anyone know where they actually got stuck?

Pretty stupid though. Lake County is a long way off from the Sierras. i guess "Free Spirit" = dumba$$ when in the backwoods

I saw this on the news this morning, the girl was interviewed and said "Like the truck got stuck, and umm like the watter started flow'in in the cab uhhhh so like we new we were done for! We umm like uhh broke into a cabin and ugh all they had was like ummm cans of tomato sause so umm like we ate tomato soup for like uhh three days."
 
Another couple of "I D ten T's" going into the woods without a clue... lucky to be alive... in winter no less. Wow, some people are just lucky!! At least my tax dollars didn't get spent on these two!! :looser::looser:
 
There is a big disconnect here for me. Maybe I missed something...

OK, if they were stuck and broke into a cabin how did they get out? I understand they used a cc, but where? How did they use a cc if they were stuck/standed in the woods? And when they used the cc why didn't they call their family?

I don't get it. Either that or I missed something!
 
The credit card deal doesn't make sense but I get the general sense of it.

Morale of the story: don't be an idiot when you go into the woods alone. Or maybe just don't go alone. They did have each other, but another truck probably would've prevented this
 
Well someone is going to have to s-p-e-l-l it out for me, lol. I just don't get how if they had access to a cc machine they were considered lost. The machine requires at least a standard phone line if not a high speed data line, right? And if they had that how were they lost. Or if they were lost and THEN used a cc how did they get out of the woods to find a place to use the cc? And would that be your first instinct? Use a cc? Mine would be to call my loved ones and then buy food.

So all of this talk about not going it alone is fine but I don't think they were lost AT ALL. That's what I meant about the BS meter being fully pegged. And the BS meter rarely lies! LOL

As I have read this story it started out that they were reported lost last week and that their family thought they went to the Sierras. Then the cops found a credit card record for gas in Upper Lake at the start of their adventure. They had gone into the Mendocino Natl Forest to camp. When they tried to leave they crossed a creek that was low going in but now much deeper with all the rain the area had received. The truck a 2WD got stuck and filled with water. They then found a cabin and broke into it. They then decided after a few days to hike out. That is when they were spotted by the helicopter that the family hired. Now they are home. The end.

These were free spirits that got lucky. Hope this clears it up.

They were 'lost' because they did not return to their family after a reasonable amount of time.

They were 'lost' because they were in Lake County thinking it was the Sierras.
