what is the reason you never hear of anyone welding angle iron on the rocker panels. it seems like a good fit-up. i guess if you hit them hard enough they will bend the whole deal, but at least they will hold up better than the regular rockers for the meantime. probably too late to ask this ? because i already welded them on. give me some hines-sight. :D

yea get some pics up soon. i used 2 x 2 x 1/4. i was going to use 3/8 but a little to heavy.

I used 1/4" plate about 6 years ago, formed to fit the angle of the rocker perfectly.

When I retred that chassis this year, the rockers were no longer visible from the side of the vehicle, the doors closed over the rockers. It was impressive just how much they bent.

CRASH

yea, mine fit up to the rockers real nice thats why i am wondering why no one ever talks about doing this. i guess i will find out why next week at paragon. heres a pic still need to clean them up. oh yea that is some seriously thin sheet metal to weld to.

What are you going to do to "clean them up"? Wash the bird turds off them? :D

hey, i never welded sheet metal on my jeep the passenger side came out a lot better. i had to get used to it. also i used .035 on the visable side. way to much wire .024 worked like a dream. plus at work they only have 100% carbon dioxide which runs like crap.

Haha, ya I saw that, just giving you shit. :)

There's nothing wrong with welding them on.

Mine are welded to the pinch. They're 1/8" rectangle and have held up to every rock they've been bashed on, which is many (I like to use them alot).
I actually should have made them longer because a rock pushed one up into the rocker on one end.

Used 3/16 thick steel for the area under the doors and 1/4 thick steel from the pinch weld to meet the 3/16. Pretty much just welded to the body where ever I could. The self tapping sheet metal screws were used to hold the steel in place while I welded.

And one giant long booger weld to join the 3/16 and 1/4 steel, figure if I leave it boogery it'll saw through the rocks right? The crossmember and subframe is next.

Damn Okie Terry... Thhat is one hell of a framers tan, like the rockers though!
