im not the OP, but IMHO, the first step is to check charging voltage with a multimeter, if its not charging, check for loose connections (the unplugged 4-pin plug on a renix, for example.... will prevent a brand new alternator from charging).
If you only have battery voltage, WHILE RUNNING, (below 13v) chances are its the ALT, pull it, and take it into an auto parts store for them to bench test.
Multimeters... worth their small weight in gold!
