All Things Guns

Agreed on all counts, although I think there are better options for a 250 yd hunting gun.

I qualify at the range at 200, 300 and 500 yes with the 5.56. Is there really a need for a bigger caliber?

I've have a 223 bolt gun that can ring a gong at a 1000yds with a 13yr old girl running it. The right bullet for the right job. BTW, this is not a bench gun, tacticool stock and a bipod and a NF scope.

what do you like for a dpms compatible lower?

anything forged.

unless you're spending the big bucks on a matching set that's machined together you're getting generic spec pieces.

grab you a billet80 lower if you want to do the machine work.

A bunch of us are taking our concealed carry class Saturday and Sunday.
The Peoples Republic of Illinois requires 16 hours.
Lar, Rev, Dion (magnum CJ), his old lady, my dad and I are all taking the class together.
I will post pics from the range part of the class.

Very good class, even experienced shooters like my Dad, Rev, Dion and my self learned a lot.
The instructor was very good, he gave us scenarios that we may encounter during routine traffic stops. He told us that not all cops are reasonable and some are not very thrilled with the new law and to not be too terribly surprised if one of them cuffs us and detains us just because we have a fire arm on our person in public. This bugs me a little.
I would like to get permitted for Wisconsin. so I would like to take the 4 hour Utah class, perhaps I could take it an the Gingerman some evening? (hint hint)

Lar overcame her fear of hand guns at the range she scored 100% on the shooting. She was afraid of Semi-Autos but I could not find a revolver that fit her hand so I borrowed a friends, 22A. After the qualifying I let her shoot a Sigma and she liked it and now will consider a .380 Bodygaurd or something similar.
I was loading mags during the first round range qualifying and I heard a BOOM BOOM BOOM. MY buddy Tommy tune Up was using his 500 revolver to qualify because he is a nut.

All of us were very happy with the class it was $100.00, some of my friends have paid $300-$400 for this class. If any of you N. IL guys are interested in it let me know, I will get you in touch with the instructor, he does not advertise all of his are referrals. The class is held in Rockton and the range time is at a quarry just outside of town.

Your illinois class satisfies the requirements for fl an az

To name a few

So how do I get the permit?
The instructor said he was not qualified to teach any other state so he did not have any information on obtaining an out of state permit.

Please advise me oh wise one....

While It's great you enjoyed the class and learned some things, it sounds to me like this is a newly-minted instructor who got his BIT recently for the purpose of teaching Illinois, and is mis-informed. The alarmist "cop might cuff you" anecdotes is another indication

I think I might know who this is, we recently had to "educate" several forum participants about which non-res permits they could get after some instructors mis-informed their students that the Illinois training is ONLY Illinois training.

nothing could be further from the truth.

There are a bunch of states that require training. Some are four, five, eight hours....Illinois, as you know, is 16hours.

the first eight hours is "usually" curriculum patterned closely or exactly to the "NRA Basic Pistol" mod. This training module satisfies the requirements of Florida, Arizona, Virginia, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, just to name a few states that I have first hand experience obtaining non-res permits in.

a few years ago, Utah required instructors obtain state-specific certification at Utah BCI. In order to get a Utah non-res, your training must be performed by a BCI cert'ed instructor.

You qualify for the states I've listed, and they have great reciprocity, or at least fill in the gaps in cases like Maine and CT that recognize their own.

reciprocity agreements change all the time. It is important to obtain fresh info.

I don't know if you are coming in to town soon, but I have both florida and az applications.

otherwise, you can call for a free ap to be sent.
