I want a 308 or some kind of non-223/556
?
I want a 308 or some kind of non-223/556
I see where my question was confusing….
I want to build another ar platform, but not in 223 or 556.
sean, i already have a ruger ranch rifle.
I built my last ar-15 from parts (no assemblies) which was a real hoot.
I'd be up for doing another, even starting from a stripped lower.
the little research i did shows some variations and different directions you can take with ar-10 and other ways of going about a .308.
it doesn't have to be 308 either….i'm just looking at ideas an concepts at this point.
so....7.62....
I can build a 7.62 upper and run my existing lower?
I can run 308 as well right?
I was more or less thinking of building an ar-10.
here's the 15

No, not what I meant. I wrote badly.
A .308/AR-10 is dimensionally different than your AR-15, both upper and lower receivers. The process to put them together is the same, the lower parts kit is basically the same. You can't use a 5.56 lower because the magazines, etc. aren't the same sizes.
Functionally they are the same rifle. But a .308 receiver set is different because of the requirements of the longer/bigger round.
.300 blackout is a popular option. you're basically into it with a different barrel and BCG.
okay, that's what I thought!
so when I look at "ar-10's" it seems there are a few different design characteristics?
for the most part, the ar-15 is easy. you can almost take anyones lower pieces-parts and put them on anyones upper pieces-parts.
my research suggests that there is a certain "commitment" you have to make when beginning an ar-10 project.
does that make sense?
fellow freedom lovers….
I want a 308 or some kind of non-223/556 ar platform.
gonna set it up "hunter/rancher" style.
wood furniture and such. no rails, no para-military wanna-be bullshit.
let's start there, and you guys spend my money for me.
Agreed on all counts, although I think there are better options for a 250 yd hunting gun.
I qualify at the range at 200, 300 and 500 yes with the 5.56. Is there really a need for a bigger caliber?
mag well in 15 is not long enough to accommodate x51.
This is full on AR-10 land.
Get one on the DPMS pattern, as they have the cheaper mags.
If it's full on no expenses spared custom

If you want .30 in AR-15 upper it's going to be one of the calibers parented from the 5.56 case like .300AAC.
