Anyone recommend a good place to get an alignment done somewhere reasonably local to central mass?

Open up the phone book, there is probably a place in your town or maybe only a town away. They don't have to have anything special, all they need to do is get your steering wheel straight and then get both of the front wheels to point straight (like 1/2 degrere inwards).

i will suggest Town Fair Tire.. they sell tires and do alignments.. they dont do front end work or sell parts. if they say something is bad and cant align it for you it's because it really is bad.

I'm trying to stay clear of places that have speed-trained-kid-employees who could care less about what they are doing.
I'm looking for someone/someplace local that knows lifted vehicles and would even adjust stuff like the trackbar/draglink if need be to make it perfect.
Going to town fair tire for an alignment is like getting a $200 paint job...

I do my own alignment with a tape measure in the driveway but I also don't mind my paint being wicked faded....

You're not really close to either of the MA 4x4 shops that I've used and would recommend: Elias in Townsend, MA and Bay State Offroad in Middleboro, MA.

There is a great place in Manchester NH, far out of your way, but my point being I wouldn't trust Town Fair, Pep Boys, Sears or any of those places to align my Jeep. Half of them won't do lifted vehicles anyway. Look for a place that specializes in front ends, not selling stuff. I paid $48 for my alignment when I put my 32's on and it was well worth it, my bro and I go to the same place with excellent results.

Well I can't give you a recommendation of a place real close to you but Duffy's on Rt. 9 in NoHo (just off 91) does a good job and for pretty cheap. Other than that I've had Town Fair do mine too, the one on King St. (Rts. 5/10) in NoHo, and I've successfully done minor tweaks myself with a tape measure. If it needs a lot of adjustment, that's when I bring it to Duffy's....because one time I F'ed up and ate up some front tires real quick (it was winter time, really cold, did it quick, and didn't notice the tires wearing unevenly because everywhere I parked there was always snow caked in the treads!!

I understand where you're coming from about the speed-kids at town fair. I've heard a few horror stories from friends having performance tires/wheels installed there....but I've had nothing but great experience with town fair. But, jeeps are about as simple as it gets. Nice expensive rice burners are easier to F up, IMO.

I recommend staying away from Town Fair for alignments. Out of the 4 cars I've had aligned there, not one has driven straight after it.

My Jeep, alright I can see it being a little difficult to do it since its lifted and such, and my friend worked there and got me a killer deal on the tires so I couldn't complain that much. I took my dads stock wrangler there for new tires and alignment, I drove it a couple days later and noticed the wheel was not straight. Same deal with my sister's car.

What really got me was my parents Ford Taurus that I've been using as a commuter car since January. Drove straight before putting the new tires on, got it back and noticed it didn't drive straight after less than a mile of driving. It pulls to the left, and in the left lane of any highway you have to forcefully fight the wheel at times to keep from driving off the road it pulls so much. Even in the right lane of a crowned highway it steers to the left. Took it back and they said they fixed it, but they can't align some of it unless we get an aftermarket kit for it (camber and caster). No change what so ever after the second alignment.
