so i just installed an aftermarket deck. no issues with that part of it.

my issue is that the single din deck is very bouncey inside the cubby hole.
who has come up with ways to make it a more rigid/secure mount?

Yeah that kinda sucks about my XJ i have a single din in there and it moves around some i need to think of something to brace mine with

yea, its annoying!
i was thinking of screwing a rubber snubber to the bottom of the deck or something. i dont know how well a bracket would work. it would be a major PITA trying to get back there with the deck in place to secure it to something.

I have always had the older body style, and as such have never had a problem with the replacements. But does the adapter kit not have a way to suspend the rear portion of the radio? I remember seeing a "if your radio is not secure..." portion of the instructions that I always ignore because mine is fine, and it usually has to do with how to support the back.

I have seen a thick piece of foam slid under the deck before

my 89 has two side post for the dash support the has two angle brackets that bolt to it. Screw those to the side of the metal sleeve and it stiffens it up real well.

I have one of these holding my Alpine deck. Seems to do the trick (Metra 99-6000)

my wifes old deck had one of those below it. It was nice for parking garages and events because you could keep the ticket there and not lose it. Kept me from having to pay the default "full day" charge a few times.

^^ no modification necessary to make that work with the XJ mounts (97+)?
found it, looks like its good to go for 97+ XJ's. thanks for the part number!
Your local audio shop should sell them... and I've seen them as low as $15 shipped on ebay.

I always wanted to convert that cubby hole into a humidor for my Arturo Fuente Exquisitos lol
