Aftermarket steering wheels?

I have a Grant on mine and love it.When i bought the kit my buddy bought one for his 86 GMC and they use the same hub adapters for both so when he got his 84 Chevy he put my stock on it.The Grant adapter is a 3196.
Here's a list if interchangeable stockers that have the same splines as the XJ.

1970-88 AMC (All Exc. Alliance, Encore)
1976-95 CJ5, CJ6, CJ7, Wrangler, Cherokee, Wagoneer, Pick-up, Scrambler, Commanche
1974-75 Cherokee, Wagoneer, Pick-up
1969-93 Buick All Models
1969-94 Chevy Cars and 1974-94 Trucks, SUV's, 82-94 Vans
1978-81 Chrysler Corp. w/Tilt Wheel
1979-81 Tilt col. 2WD & 4WD Pick-Ups, Trailduster, Ramcharger, Dakota, Van

Heavymetal has a wj steering wheel on his 97+ xj. It looks awesome, but I wonder if he retained the airbag. (Not an issue for the 95- models)

This was my old XJ, Grant wheel and Hub.. IIRC 14"

Grant adapter is like 20$ at the parts store. Their wheels range anywhere from 40$+ depending on what you get. I think the quick disconnect is a little more $$.

I recall the time spent behind the wheel of a Sprint Cup car, the steering wheel looks and feels huge when compared to a street rig. Most teams run a 16" or 17" wheel. That being said, these cars run a different ratio box than your XJ and require more steering effort from the driver to turn the car, so there is a need for a bigger wheel to increase the leverage and reduce driver fatigue. In an endurance race, fatigue is a factor, but since you swap out drivers, swapping in a smaller wheel is less likely to be an issue.

Are you running a fixed ratio or variable ratio steering gear box?

Here's what we ended up with for $32.00, a 13.5" Grant cheapo. Makes a big difference in how the steering feels, but I don't think the effort will be too high...remember we're always at speed and are running pretty short tires. Here it is with the dash:

Then we decided to just yank the whole thing out. Amazingly, the steering wheel came with a complete set of gauges...but we can't figure out how to make 'em work:

Also, we just cut out the hub from our old wheel and reused it, so we didn't have to buy the $20 Grant piece:

Matt, you are always in the middle of crazy projects. Sound awesome.

The steering wheel looks at home in the Jeep

That's only medium pimpin' .. besides, I don't need to drive with handcuffs on. Maybe they should make it a new type of racing.

This one I had for a while.. Believe it or not I found the wheel on a electric tow motor pushcart thing in a dumpster beside where a buddy of mine used to work. He spotted the carts in the can throwing out the garbage on late night. We came out later that night to grab the carts, the next day it was emptied heh heh.
