Im thinking of using these 6.5" Polk speakers all the way around in my cherokee... http://www.crutchfield.com/p_107DB651S/Polk-Audio-db651s.html?tp=95

Should I use these in all 6 speaker spots? (front doors, pillar 2, and hatch) Or should I use 6x9s in the pillar 2? Does that take alot of hacking up to make them fit?

Is it not worth it to go 6x9s? Will I have to worry about getting speakers that use the same amount of electricity?

96 cherokee xj sport. The speakers are in the thing that goes across the top of the trunk/ behind the peoples heads who sit in the back seat... Crutchfield calls it pillar 2

ok, most just call it a sound bar. Have you looked to make sure you have speakers in the hatch, or were you planning on adding them to the hatch.

I have not seen a jeep that had them both in the hatch and in the soundbar.

I almost always use 5.25 speakers when replacing stock speakers in the jeeps I have. Just easier. I did put 6in speakers in the sound bar I added. You will have to do a lot of modification to fit 6x9s, it is dooable, but I am not sure if it is worth it. To get the same sound you would get from adding them you could just add an 8in woofer to the cubbyhole.

I would also be concerned about the weight of anything larger than a 5.25" back there. My DS600s fit, but I put them up front and put 5250s back there anyway. That thing is pretty flimsy- I changed the lights out, and had to rig up a screw and bracket to keep it against the headliner.

Simply replacing the speakers made a big difference, and rigging up a sub for the cubby vastly improved things, IMO. It's not going to win any competitions, but it's far better than what it was sporting when it left Toledo. IMO, anyway.

Well, it has the slits/speaker vent things in the hatch... so im assuming it has speakers in there.

And yes, im speaker illiterate lol

If you don't have a soundbar in the back, you probably do have hatch speakers. You have to watch Crutchfield sometimes- they show 4 speaker locations, and list 12" subs as fitting, which they do- if you buy a box. Their prices can be also be 2 to 3 times higher than other retailers.

Those 6.5's will fit everything nicely. The Infinity equipped XJ's came with 6.5's in all the factory spots and my Alpine 6.5's fit everywhere with no modification needed. No need to goto 6x9's... not worth the hassle in my opinion.

It really depends on the 6.5. Not all of them mount exactly the same, some will put the mounting holes too far out. Heck, the 5.25's I took out were radically different from the ones I put in.

Not saying dont do it, I am just saying do not automatically expect all speakers to fit exactly the same.

edit: after looking at a wiring diagram or two, you either have them in the hatch or in the soundbar. I could not find a diagram that had more than 2 pairs of speakers in the truck regardless of location. You may have the vents, but probably not the speakers if you look closer. The soundbar sounds better anyway.

In that case, I have the sound bar.

What do you guys think of these speakers? http://www.crutchfield.com/p_107DB651S/Polk-Audio-db651s.html?tp=95

Any other recommendations for about $50?

walmart has good speakers. The pioneer 3 ways I bought there sound just as good as If I had bought them off crutchfield and paid shipping I am sure.

im on my third cherokee and have chaged speakers out in it several times as well as my brothers was in the car audio biz.for optimal sound i recomend mb quarts 61/2" twoway component system up front with the tweeters mounted coaxialy using their grill option.remove door panel remove the factories, dynamat area behind where speakers mount.forget about mounting them in factory sheet metal and using the mb quarts grill ring as template over the door panel where the built in grill is and remove this area with saw or router, mounting to the door panel eliminates almost all resonance the speaker upgrade will cause.next install crossovers in door with double sided foam tape.when removing factoy speakers looking at them from the back with the terminal at the bottom right side pos left side neg.it is important to have correct polarity on new ones or buy crutchfeilds adapter which is only availible when you purchase speakers throuh them, but forget that on line you can get three times the speaker set for the money of beginners set.as for the ones inthe head liner us the same series with the mb quart grill which the only ones ive found that will cover the holes left by the factory grills.i reccomend the premium or reference series, the bigger the crossover the cleaner the sound also i reccomend a amp of at least 50 watts rms to 100 watts rms, dont be fooled by phony max ratings on brands such as performance tekniuqes or amercan bass the true numbers are always listed in the owners manuel.set crossovers at 80 hz highpass.any questions?

i have some speakers in my jeep.they are good sounding.i like them lots.but i didnt spend lotsof greenbacks.

No seriously, I was much happier when I bought a sub, i got some cheapie pioneers in the doors and soundbar. But once i bought a decent (rockford p3) sub it made everything much more enjoyable.

I just take all the bass out of it and let the sub do that work, speakers aren't designed for bass so letting the sub do that made things much clearer.

walmart cheapies (get pioneer at least) and a 10 or 12 inch sub is a great sounding combo in an XJ. Especially if you get a good sealed box for the sub.

Ive also been looking into the Infinity reference 6022i 6.5" speakers, but I read that their impedance (ohms) which is 2 ohms, could be a problem. Is this anything to worry about? Will these work with any head unit? Any amp?

Also have you guys heard anything about these? I dont have much room in my trunk so this under the seat would be nice. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470939031&pf_rd_i=507846

I installed the Infinity 6022si speakers in all four corners of my 99.

They work just fine with the stock unit.

How do you like them?
Do I have to get the shallow mount version like you did?

I like them. Way better than stock speakers but will not "Blow you out". I bought those so I would not have an interference issue on power windows in the doors. I don't recall how much room was left in front. You could remove your door panels and measure with the window down to find out how much room you have.

I have the 6022i speakers in my 96. It came with 5 1/2" speakers. I had to do some sawzalling to make them fit okay. Removing that soundbar is a bit of a pain, and I had to use a metal screw in the center under the light to get it to hold back in place (you may find a better way to remove and reinstall if you're not as hasty as I was). I also put them in my doors, and had to drill new screw holes for that (and do some cutting of the plastic/fabric on the panel). I've got an after-market head unit pushing 22W to them. Sound is good, but they'd benefit on the low end from getting more power. I've got an amp & 10" sub, so I get all the low end I need.
