A Pillar light mounts

I have a question regarding all of the a-pillar light mounts that I have seen advertised in various forums and on the internet. My son and I each have Xj's his a 95 and mine a 01. Nowhere in anything that I have read has anyone brought up the fact that you are drilling through the a-pillar thus weakening the structure. Is this something that we should be concerned about?

I love the placement option especially with the smaller LED pods that are available.

Was just curious. Your feedback is definitely welcome.

Detours made a-pillar mounts last I knew as well.

Thanks guys, I have decided that for structural reasons drilling through the A-Pillars is not the best option (at least for me) I have found a couple ideas/alternatives that I like. Inspired has a nice mount that uses the mirror mounts and JCR just released a gutter mount for a 50" bar.

Thanks for your input.

I'm a little apprehensive about drilling into the pillars too, but I really like those mirror mounts from Inspired engineering. One thing about those mirror mounts that first came to mind is that if you're ever in a situation when you're on the trail and you need to fold in the mirrors, you may end up losing the lights. I guess you could mount them with some sort of quick disconnect so you could reach out and bring them in.

Honestly, most LED light pods are light weight. A bracket that "taps" into the a-pillar is not going to really affect the integrity.

I agree. A couple small holes with a good-sized piece of plate steel bolted over them, along with a back up plate behind(in most cases), is not likely to be a weak point.
In fact, that particular section of the a-pillar might even be stronger, as far as not crumpling when taking a hit....
I wouldn't worry about it.

I just saw Hooligan off road advertising a new A pillar light mount that extends the full length of the pillar and mounts a 50" light bar at the top and 2 pods at the bottom for 150. Its a new product and isn't on their website yet. It mounts with nutserts and I would imagine would actually strengthen the pillar since it is full length.
