Hey all. I just tried to put in my nice new 6.5" speakers in my 99 xj four door. I got the 6.5" because I read in a few places that's the speaker it needs. Well low and behold I have 5 1/4" openings. wtf? I searched and it seems that some people put in 6.5" with no problems, while others have to cut. Am I missing something here? I don't think I can cut, because the power window motor looks like it'll get in the way. Any suggestions? Should I buy an adapter from crutchfield?

The Infinity's fit with no cutting, thats what most people on here went with I believe. And yes, the oem size is 5-1/4 openings regaurdless of what crutchfield says. It just happens thats its a "wierd" 5-1/4, a lot of aftermarket 5-1/4's are too small and a lot of aftermarket 6-1/2 are to big to fit with out trimming... It just happens that the Infinity's are a great fit- plus you get a larger speaker size, no downfalls there. Either trim, or take whatever you have back and get the Infinity's.

edit- no dont buy that adapter- a quick fix that is no subsitute for doin it correctly... if you have no other options, get a stout peice of 1/4 wood and make an adapter- plastic sux

If I can trim and fit 8" subs in the front doors, you can fit 6.5's. (errrr little more comlicated on the subs though, I didnt cut a 7.5" hole, just enough to get the magnet through.) but you should be fine- you shouldnt have to trim any more than 1/4" all the way around or so.

Sorry to bring this back up. I have a 1996. It was mentioned that the 6 1/2 Infinity's are the perfect fit.

Was that the Reference, Kappa, or Perfect 6 1/2's?

Thank you
Jason
