98XJ: Project Salsa

so an update of sorts. brand new steering box, two brand new lines, an almost new PS pump and the box leaks  got one front 9100 remounted, the pass side was just about ready to go in but i need to grind some metal off of my new lower mount to fit the giant shock eye bc the ruffstuff mounts are a little shorter than the ballistic ones i used before. i figured out the insane front end noise i had were my calipers floating on the bracket, so i searched for a solution to this problem and found a thread on pirate where someone made a shim and put a tack on the caliper bracket to hold it in place. so i did this on one side, then i found the extra brake hardware i had and noticed these fancy shims that fit right into that place where it was loose. so i put that on the other side. now they get to battle to see what method works better.

i prob will be able to use my buddy's new garage tomorrow night and sat night, so i wanna finish up the front end and take it for a drive. maybe i'll start bending some tube up and getting the rear shock mount/cargo area set up.. i have a good (and final) idea of how i want to do that. after thats done, i can move on to finishing the rest of the cage.

and heres a pic w the H2s mounted

they are too small :D all of them are 30% tread except onen which is completely bald. the dude i got them from prob thought it would be cool to do a fat ass burnout before he put his new setup on.

i looked for the caliper part in pirate but couldn't find it... probally searching it wrong. could you tell me what they did or send me the link. i'm having the same problem my calipers keep loosing up. thanks

the part you need is the black clip in this pic:

i have that on my pass side.

what i did is this:

if the clip works well, i'll grind the welds off and run it on the driver side. it was in the brake hardware kit i ordered for the HP44, dont have the PN for it.

long time, no update. been driving it for the past 2 weeks save for this week, had some dumb power steering issues. they're all sorted out for now, hopefully this pump/box combo lasts me til i can afford a PSC kit. got some 35" MTZs mounted today and have a decently treaded BFG AT spare on a pretty polished H2 wheel. that spacer i welded in above stil leaves a tiny bit of play in the caliper so thats gonna go soon. we had to move the tubing bender at my buddy's place (its been sitting in the garage for a few weeks now) so i'll be back to bending hopefully next week so i can get the b-pillar done, then i can burn that and the roof bars, then work on the stuff from the a-pillar forward, and eventually slider bars and a rear bumper/tire carrier. taking a break this weekend to take the jeep out to montauk with the lady at her family's condo; gonna take the jeep out on the sand and take some real pics and see how she fairs in the dunes :D

and just a teaser i put on facebook earlier...

LOL thats from when i pulled the old pass side knuckle off, and was able to remove and reinstall the upper ball joint by hand... so i chuck norris kicked it as hard as i could. i also threw a metal table across the yard... it takes a shitload to set my temper off but when it does, its not pretty. me and my buddy wanna work on making some metal jeepspeed style fenders this winter for his new project and mine. gotta find a metal roller for cheap and we're golden.
