Read a lot about this fairly common problem. Seems the only option is to replace the whole assembly. My "J rod" pulled out as well and seems to be bent mostly straight. My question is, if I go to a junk yard and find the whole assembly, can I take it apart and just use the button, spring and J rod in my handle that's already in my Jeep? If so, what would I need to do to do that.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm trying to figure out if it is possible to place the j rod back in and have it stay, without taking it all apart. Anyone had success with this? Mine won't "lock in".

Managed to JB Weld the button back on mine, but didn't have the rest of those issues. In the end got a replacement e-brake handle and did the somewhat painful install.

If you can tell from your old one, does the hook end on the rod curve down or curve up? I couldn't recall when it came out and found two different photos online wasnt sure the correct way to glue the button and don't know if I'm inserting it the correct way. Any help would be appreciated

In other words, is this the right way it should be or does this person have the button upside down and need it rotate the other way?
