What are the short coming of a 97 Cherokee 4x4, auto, p/w, p/d, cruise? I know some year Cherokees are less desired than others but I don't know which ones.

The interior is unliked by some but as far as body and drive train then it's hard to beat 97 or 98. I have read that some belive those to be the best two years. Debatable I'm sure.

I have a 97 and 98. Both are real strong runners, there are very small differences, emissions, fuel, some interior parts. Love them both.
97-98's are good. No problems yet, 165k miles and all good.
Any short comings? Door hinges on my 97 are starting to get weak. Thats about it.

I definately like my '97 (160K miles) a lot more than my old '90.Runs good and strong, gets decent mileage, and is definately more comfortable than the '90.

I have a 98 creeping up on 97k miles and going strong still. Only issues I've had with it are cooling issues that I think started from the first owner not keeping up on it, but I've taken care of all of that. The 97+ models are great I have an 01 aswell with 100k+ on it. The only think I hate is the power window motor track rail setup they use. if it goes bad you have to replace the whole thing. Unless you can find a used one to swap out or one cheap on ebay or craigs list then it can get pricy to fix. Other wise I love them.
The 98 we have on 235/75r15s I drove from greeley to grand junction on one tank of gas over the passes and all that and got 425 miles. I was pretty happy with that. I love the I-6 motor it will go and go and go it has great pep to it and is great an all around great motor to have.

:wave1: BTW, I love your stories... :D

Love my '98... even though i havent hit 100K in it yet haha.

My friend has a '97 and it runs like a champ with 160K+.

Ha, I got a 98 with 252,2xx miles. Original tranny and motor. Just regularly serviced. Only major issues to date(my uncle was the first owner, me the second) would be I have replaced the starter, pcm, and transfer case. All of which were of my own fault because when pulled apart, they had mud and debri in them, lol. Other than that just the normal maintainence stuff.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I just drove here, colorado springs, from South Carolina. Something like a 1700 mile drive. Drove it straight too. No overnight breaks. Me and some buddies just drove in shifts. The jeep took it like a champ.

So, yeah, I put in one vote for the 97, 98's.
