Okay, i know there are litteraly Hundreds of threads all over on this topic and i dont wanna beat a dead horse, but i cant find exactly whats involved. Some sites say you need to trim things, others say its a direct bolt in (header panel and fenders), Also do you need the actual headlight mounts into for the swap or any other small parts? I haven't even had a chance to take my stock front clip apart to get an idea since I'm not even sure if i'll get the front clip. I have access to a 2001 Xj, and tomorrow i find out what parts i can "borrow" off of it. Also what are some other parts I should grab off the 97+? (interior, mirrors, doors, etc) Its a shame to see such a nice jeep go to waste, and id like to save what i can for my pre-97. Are there any step by step pics? I found the most commonly quoted "http://go.jeep-xj.info/BensXJ.htm" link, but I don't know, I think i'd just like a little more info, hidden bolt locations ect, when all I can find is, before and after pics with a general "It fits" it would probably be a lot easier if i had it in front of me to look at. Thanks for any help :worship:

it was almost bolt in

the 4 top studs line up just fine.

if you use the 97+ front fenders it will be bolt in. if not you need to fab a little bracket for the sides. it will be pretty self explanatory once you take a look at it.

you will have to do a little wiring for thenew turn signal lights, but its just 2 wires on each side, hard to screw up. old bulb housings will work in the marker lense and the headlights are the same.

the doors will also work, but you will need to modify the hinges. could be a bolt in operation though, i have never tried.

power windows bolt in just fine.
the entire interior can be swapped, but its more work than it's worth in my opinion.

Okay, thanks for the advise, today I went in blind, and grabbed the whole interior minus the dash, all 4 doors, tail lights, drive shaft, fenders, front header panel with all lights and wiring. All for free! And now that I've torn it apart, it doesnt look like a hard swap at all. To bad i couldnt save the 4.0 :(
