i recently picked up a 1991 cherokee limited .. great clean truck .... suspension is so shot so i want to go 4.5 on 35s this is my first xj so im not great with swaps and mods for these trucks.. always had a yj. id like to get some veteran xj driver suggestions for how i should build this truck. Im into the low cog builds my yj was 3.5 on 35s. the xj has a d35 rear with 355s i love the ford 8.8 so im going to be doing that swap ...maby if you have some pics of xj on 4.5 with 35s .. how you trimmed your fenders bump stops etc. ....but im stumped in terms of lifting it ... what really a good company to go with and thats not going to run me broke ... i want to keep it short arm ... a little help would be awesome thanks guys

BYO with parts will probably be the lowest cost. RE4.5 coils can be had from serious offroad for about 70-75$ /pair. OME MD/HD leafs, ext shackles, and HDOR shackle relocators for the rear. I would recommend CAD brackets for short arm at that height. WIth bumps/trimming, you would need to get it to the height you want and the tires and droop/flex and measure for bumps and limit straps.

what about control arms a friend of mine has a set of adj lowers i might take them.. not sure what brand but for now theyll do the job .. and track bar do you need a new track bar adj? fixed? what would be the best ? i was thinking about going with crown brake lines i had them on my yj and they were great very durable, any thoughts ?

35s and 4.10s? IMO, not the best combination there. I am running P285/75R16s (32.8") and 4.56s and that works well for a DD Heep. If it was a trail only rig, I would go the 4.88s with my 33s... I bet most folk here are running 4.88s with 35s or even shorter gears.

My rig has an AW4. The combination I am running results in an 11% mechanical advantage over stock. By that I mean the engine is turning 11% faster at any given road speed in any given gear as compared to stock.

It is desirable that the Heep is not bogged down by the shoes it is wearing. So, If you are going to regear, think carefully on the selection as they are not cheap.

^^Agreed^^ You're going to want to gear deeper than 4.10. I have 35s and 4.56 gears I still wish I had slightly deeper gears, like 4.88. Because it's hard to maintain speed up long steep hills when driving on the hwy. I don't know what the terrain is like where you live but something to consider. One thing I do like about the 4.56 and 35" tires I can comfortably drive 70 down the freeway

I can relate, im on 35s on about 3 inches of lift with a ford 8.8 rear, geared to 4.88 with a 4 cyl and 5 speed. Its slow but the gears help it get up to speed alot easier for sure.

I have 4.88s with 33s and would even go lower!! lol

Definately go to 4.88s at the minimum for sure, also cheap and reliable don't go together. As with everything in life you get what you pay for, there are plenty of quality short arm kits such as Rock Krawler, Clayton ect.

It sounds like you have a lot of questions. I would start with the search button, then narrow it down to more specific questions and we can help you from there!

ive decided to just go 4.5 and run 31s for a while untill i can get the rear together and geared with 488s as well as the front then get a set of some nice 35s instead of throwing this truck together lol ive got a aussie for the front too so ill have some fun on 31s for a while ... and im from long island guys take the occasional trip to rausch creek.
