88 jeep cherokee fuel pump

wires are backwards, encountered this a while ago, tried replacing one wire at a time so I didn't screw up but my napa pump terminals were opposite the oe one. Don't run it too long fuel keeps the pump cool. pull it and switch the wires

So I am about to do this using the same kit. Am I hearing that I have to reverse the wiring? It sounds like it will actually run backwards if not? On the Carter/Bosch pump I have the terminals are marked + and - for what it is worth. Anyway I do not have mine apart but will report on my findings. I guess I will make it pump a little fuel before installing to confirm what the right wiring configuration is Thanks for the tip.

I replaced my 97's fuel pump last night. Bosch I think.
The new pump and old one both had the terminals marked Pos+ and Neg-
I checked before I plugged the new one in, and it matched the old one, so there were no problems there.
For the older rides, not sure if they are labelled or not, but you can check it out.

when i replaced the fuel pump on my 89, the replacement pump had the + and - terminals on the opposite sides than the original bosch.
