87 Cherokee Chief 2 door Survivor like new refresh with NOS parts

Man, you're finding NOS parts that I didn't even know existed. This thing is a a real showpiece.

I'm pretty good but I ain't that good.
Funny how the simple things but a smile on my face.
For instance that NOS bumper cap with the cutouts for the tire carrier.
Until now, like you, did not even know that existed.

Where in the cargo area does the trunk mount? In the passenger's side recess?

Well I was going to have to cut rectangle hole in bumper, make square holes and drill more holes.
But alas a NOS tire carrier bumper was found.
Unfortunately shelf wear scratched up paint, but my powder coater did a great job matching black sheen / color.

Been working on Chief lately, installed Up Country leaf springs to replace the old saggys.

Removed the 4x4 emblem / nameplate on both sides for minty NOS

Also replaced the liftgate handle, rear wiper bezel, license light and Jeep nameplate. Had to dig out the long panel clip remover tool so wouldn’t break any of interior liftgate panel clips.

Of course while everything was off, polished paint to perfection.

An amazing Chief. If it were mine I'd avoid the rear tire carrier and keep the stock size OWL tires because I'm a freak for stock, but then it isn't my XJ. It's a joy to see a survivor in this condition.

Believe me I've lost sleep and check the dates of this thread, I have avoided working on Chief trying to decide about drilling holes for tire carrier.
MOST all "Jeep Special Equipment" during AMC era required drilling.
IMO as a die hard collector, a day 2 accessorized Jeep beats a stock plane jane any day.
Since WWII Jeeps were meant to be modified.

Next up is figuring out the OEM trailer tow wiring harness for 7 pin RV style plug.
I have found NOS 56002354 and 56002356
What is confusing me is parts book says to also order body harness 56002971 (see highlighted picture).
This is a long shot as most early XJ's were not set up with heavy duty class 3 towing package, but anyone ever have and mess with OEM trailer wiring?

I have a good friend that is a electrical genius and with connector expert should be able to get corresponding connectors and hopefully be able to recreate the missing 56002971 harness.

How many miles on this thing of the past? It looks very sharp.

I see you mentioned fog lights, I have seen a factory fog light with jeep embossed covers. Dealer or factory option I assume.

What is the part number of that OEM trunk? More pics of how it opens and where it goes? I can't find anything online.

Jeff

Marchal fog lights with black painted housings are what I'm going to install.
They are correct and what the factory or dealer installed and also could of been purchased thru Jeep Special Equipment.
Black covers would of been equipped but I am going to use white covers to match the white wheels.

OEM Trunk was made by a company from San Antonio, TX called Side-liner later changed to Lido-liner.
They made storage boxes for all kinds of vehicles in mid to late 80's.
Some of the XJ boxes have Jeep embossed and other just have Lido.

Here's one for sale on FB
