86 grille assembly in a 95?

My grille is busted but I know where a 86 grille is for cheap..is there any difference besides chrome vs black on my 95?

Anything from a '91-'96 Cherokee will fit yours but the older one won't work...well it won't just bolt up without modification anyway. Keep checking the junk yards. You can get them for about $15...I'm still looking for one for my '91. All I ever see is the older ones. It seems everybody likes to smash the front of the XJ in a wreck. Good luck.

i thought 87-95 had the same body parts.

I have been searching for a new grille in the junkyard for my '91 and I am positive that the pre-'91 XJ grilles are different than mine. I think that the year range is '91-'96 for the grille but many of the other components will work on a wider range of XJs. For example, I have an '86 tail light box on my '91 after some idiot in a Prelude clipped my rear bumper and broke the tail light. I also have an older headlight bezel on the passenger side. Anyway, a little searching online will tell you what components are compatible...most are, but the grille isn't one of them.

You can put the older front clip on a '95, but you'll have to use the whole thing. The grille is different, and so are the headlight bezels where they mate to the grille. If you use the older fiberglass header, use the appropriate year grille and bezels. We put an '88 Waggy four headlight header and grille on my son's '95, and it fit fine, and with the custom aluminum grille he made, it looks awesome.

You would have to replace the fenders too....the contours of the 97+ front clip including fenders is much more smooth.

thanks guys...I found a whole grille shell off an 86-or 87..The fiberglass piece, grille, bezels, headlights, turns, and running lights, RF fender, and bumper w/ brackets all for 100 bucks..so I was hoping it would fit!

man I wish I coulda found the 4 headlight one, those are awesome
