That is your breather hose, mine is located in the same spot. That's all that's connected to the front.

Yes it is. the 22X series of case CANNOT go into low unless in 4wd.

those cases have 2wd, 4wd full time high, and 4wd low part time.

As for the cable, when you take off the vac motor, you will have a nice round hole to put the cable through,,and screw down some hose clamps on either side of big washers to capture the cable end. Add a ferrule to the T-case shift levre, and you are done.
