I have the chance at getting two D44s out of a '74 and '75 Scout II. Has anyone done this swap before? If so/ if not, is it possbile without an extended amount of modifying?
the rear will work just fine. i run one in the back of my xj. you need at least 1.25" wheel spacers though. so if you need to you can switch bolt patterns depending on what front axle you run. another benefit is the scout 44 rear shafts are equal length so it only requires carrying a single spare shaft if your into that kind of thing. disc brakes are cheap and easy to do too.
not 100% positive on this but the scout 44 fronts have no caster built into them so most people stay away from them
Do yourself a favor. Don't use the Scout front 44. As stated Caster is about 0 degrees. In order to get enough caster you will have to cut and turn the knuckles. In addition you will have to deal with the large cast area around the the diff. Yes you can make it work but there are better options. (from someone who has been there)

Hey guys im new to the board but not to the XJ sceen (had six in my driving years). but I was just wondering, Hunter you said that the rear our of a scout will work, but what are the original spring pearches at, compared to the XJ's pearches? Heaning how much do you need to move in or out? dont mean to Hijack but but seemed like a good place to ask. Thanks Guys!

The original perches are spring under axle and too close together - the swap requires welding new perches. If you run it with discs it takes some creative caliper positioning too, as with the new perches, the calipers are right on the leaves...
