Some guys say that it loosens up the cover bolts, again i have no experience with hydro assist at all, so idk if thats true or not, could just be typical forum BS.

I would consider that forum BS.... I like to keep my cover bolts tight. the force of a hydro ram against them wouldn't make them loose.

I have seen more than a few rigs with hydro assist off the cover. hell the JK rockjock housings have a freaking upper CA mount on the diff cover.

plenty of people on pirate run rams on the cover. the only thing bad i can see about it is that it sucks more to pull the cover if you need to.

countersunk bolts might be a good idea if you are worried about it.

they would center the cover perfectly to the bolt holes when tightened down and there would be no room for it to "shift"

of course you would need to run a countersunk cover, or countersink your existing cover

This. Countersunk covers are the only ones that truly center themselves and shouldn't move. I may very well end up running my ram off my RuffStuff cover and I'm not worried about it. I'm also running a lubelocker gasket so I'm hoping that would help avoid "breaking the seal" with like RTV.

I don't see why that ballistic cover couldn't be countersunk... all he would need to do is get a countersink the right pitch for the countersunk bolts he buys :laugh3:

if there running a control arm off the cover, then you can more then likely run a Ram I would think. That arm would have to put a ton of stress on that cover, maybe not I dont know.

You can countersink the bolts pretty easy. Just buy a sountersink bit, and take your time drilling them using some cutting fluid to help. Should go pretty easy.

Good idea, you guys have definitey convonced me to run the ram off of the cover.

If the cover is a solid enough mounting point for a control arm, then it should be good enough for hydro assist.

the dif cover can take the hit of whatever rocks you run into, whether straight on, or glancing off the sides.
I'll be running my ram off the cover, seems many do.

Been chasing a clunk in the front end for a couple weeks now, just found out the ruff stuff heims in my LCAs are worn out. I can get new ones for ~$35 each. I might just go to johnny joints.

Kinda bummed though, ive only been driving on these for a couple thousand miles. I thought they were supposed to be the best around. Guess not.

Yeah, 7/8s, if i grab the control arm and shake it back and forth i can hear the clunk, its not visibly loose though.

I did call, the best they could do is 35 bucks each plus shipping.

Yup, johnny joint, and then the upper is 3/4 ruff stuff heims which are still good. I was shocked at first too, i thought it was loose jam nuts, so i cranked them down as hard as i could, and the clunk was still there.

I think it may be from road salt/mud/new jersey toxins. lol
