31" tires and effect on RPM??

with my non ho i went from stock to 31's and noticed that it went in and out of od all the time so i went with 4:10's and it was a perfect combo now with 33's i wish i had 4:56's because it feels the same as it did with 3:55's and 31's :wierd:

and gas mileage with 33" bias swampers i dont want to know :laugh3:
but with the 31" bias swampers it was around 15-17 mpg

Hi,

I went to 31's on my '95 4.0 manual. At higher altitudes and hilly/rolling highways I found that 5th gear became mostly unuseable. I was also having to downshift to 3rd much more often than before.

I installed the K&N FIPK II and a Fastman TB and this brought the performance back.

Around this time my fuel economy had fallen to a widely variable 14-17MPG but after the mods I get a much more consistent 17-18.5 MPG.

Yes. I have stock gearing which I believe is 3.07
