242 with a 4 cyl?

Anyone mate a 242 xfer case with a 4 cyl? Does the full time 4WD option have enough power? How does the 242 respond behind a manual trans? I also have open diffs, will that make a difference? Just trying to gather some info...thanks.

sure it's possible, find an 87-89 21 spline 242 and drop it in.

it doesn't take any extra power to run full time 4wd, and with a manual, you'll only notice a little bit more drivetrain slop when in fulltime mode.

My '88 limited 4.0 with 242 is a little less peppy when in fulltime versus 2wd.
