Well I just got done installing this in my 87 XJ. I know I am going to get bashed for using a 231 for the second case.. but its my rig and it is what I wanted to do.

here is the DD machine doubler kit

here is the SYE 231 with the front range box

doubler plate mounted to front box to mark for cutting

Front out put cut off

I took the range boc and block off plate to a local machine shop. 50 bucks later my plate was welded

here is all together.. getting ready to install it for mock up

crawl box in place.. I also had to cut my cage seat mount

still cutting floor out

this is how much I ended up cutting out to make installation easy

doubler in place

here are the drive shafts

doubler in truck

here are some flanges I had cut.. to fix the seat bar

Since the stock x member would not work anymore... Decided to flat skid it. Here is the start of the x member

here is it painted

if my rail was bent , it would be flat

here the floor is... twin sticks are being mocked into place

here are the seats in place as well as the twin sticks

well if all your after is low gearing then a 231/231 is fine..... personally if im doin the work i want to be able to do digs but install looks good

i think it looks great! it works well to do dual 231's i would think, it looks great, and you don't have the massive weight of a cast iron case hanging off the back of your aluminum transmission. independant power to each axle is nice, but i've never really needed that option as long as i've been wheelin, so i bet that'll get the job done just fine

I kinda agree that font digs would be cool, but I am still running a my d turdy, and I dont think it would be up to the task

Its a home made set of twin sticks using push pull cables. I had to flip the range box lever, so now both cases are the same for ranges. Had to weld a bracket to the trans mount for the rear case, and built a braket and bolted it to the trans on the crawl box. If you look in the last pic of my post you will see the shiny Stainless those are the twin sticks

I will take a close up pic tommorow of what the mount looks like.. it is definately a red neck fab, but works well

sorry about those... for some reason webshots is not super sizing the pics lik ethe rest. I think If you go to my webshots page it will let you enlarge them

ok here are some pics of the shifters.

First one is of both cases in 2wd

Here the crawl box is in 4lo, and rear case is in 2wd high

If both sticks are to the rear it is in double low. You can also see I left the stock t-case shifter in place for giggles... those shiney sticks are my cutting brakes... LOL

Argggg I wish the pics on this thread still worked. I bought the same kit and getting ready to start tearing into my xj to install it

Thanks Photobucket.....
