Hey guys and gals... Been a while.

My fiance has been having problems with her explorer. Her power steering has been acting up. The steering occasionly gets tight on her.. So i checked the fluid, all was good. The belt looked a little worn so i replaced it (thinking of possible slippage... We took it to the car wash today and as soon as the undercarrage wash hit the check charging system light came on and it
Lost all power steering. It eventually came back and has been fine since. Any ideas of whats going on? (besides the obvious being a ford and all)

Thanks for any help in advance

Wait, what did you message say, I was distracted.

I wasn't being serious (look at your profile picture). I have no idea what the problem actually could be.

I know the latest generation exploders are electric assist. Don't think your 08 is.

Did it run like crap when she lost assist?

Based on when it happened I'm going to go with belt slip. Have you checked the tensioner? Is it the right length belt?

Carwash can cause belt slip, saw it quite a few times when I managed one in Indy. It should stop when it dries out.

If it gets tight from time to time, the pump may be giving up. Try a fluid change first, add some Lucas PS additive. Our Durango's PS pump would be tight on startup and whine a lot until it got warmed up, especially when cold.
