2008 Dodge Ram Cummins Turbo Diesel 6.7 Engine in an XJ??

I'd recommend giving the VW TDi another look: they're generally pretty reliable, parts availability is good, and getting more power out of them is a known quantity.

Check out this article for some very basic info on the conversion and links to the company making the kit.

About the only other engine out there that would work reasonably well would be the 2.8CRD, but good luck finding them in other-than-crate form. Not a lot of rolled diesel KJs coming up for sale these days.

Yeah...I like the idea of the 2.8 CRD. With a little boosting, some engine work, and some other mods, I think it has a lot of potential. As for the 3.0 CRD, there are some places that have rebuilds available. A little pricey, some where in the $5,000 range. So what are these problems with the 3.0 CRD being aluminum and over-heating? The Germans have been building diesels for a long time so I would have to think they would have simple issues such as "over-heating an aluminum block" solved. And the Mercedes people yet? If the engine is "sleaved", then I would think it would be ok, but....

I guess it is a little early yet to know all the problems with it.

Hmm....
